At the risk of starting a Doctor Who flame war (and feeling a touch homesick because of it):

The new Doctor may well be my favorite.

It's not simply because she's a woman, although that is an interesting variation on the concept. Mind, the fact that it took thirty incarnations to get to her is a bit odd, but there you are.

Of course, thirty Doctors in and a few dozen series lost to time and solar flares, I can't say for certain that she is my absolute favorite, but she's a damn sight better than Twenty-Eight.

They told me before I came that American would be a cultural wasteland, and yet I'm still surprised.

I am still a fan of Twenty-Three, the one from that long lost made for tv movie. But that might have been from before your time.

I've read about it, but haven't seen it. He got a bit of a mixed reaction, as I recall.

Well I think they were trying to do a bit of a change for a new audience and the classic audience didn't appreciate it much. Most of what was established with him has been ignored in recent years but he still counts as Twenty-Three officially.

He was the first Doctor I saw, which is perhaps why there is a fondness there on my part. I think I have the actor's autobiography around here somewhere. He discusses a scene where he needs to hug a Dalek.

I think everyone has a reason why the Nth Doctor they came in on is better than the Nth+1/Nth-1 Doctor.

Yes you are probably correct. Strange the affection one can form to works of fiction.

What the hell is Doctor Who?

You make me sad.

Doctor Who is a British science fiction series that's been running off and on for about... oh, two hundred and fifty years, about a nigh-immortal alien who, when he seems like he's about to die, takes on a new body with a new personality but all the memories of his (now her) previous incarnations.

I'm told that there's a Doctor Who themed burlesque theatre in the Sauron Nebula, which may be of some interest to you, if nothing else about it is.
